Sometimes you might find that your hair gets greasy way too quickly. You might wash it in the morning and by the evening it’s already greasy! Oil build up can occur on the scalp when your sebaceous glands are over active, which produce too much sebum. Build up can also occur when you have a flakey scalp.
Here are tips to break down the oily build up and help get rid of oily hair
Apple Cider Vinegar Hair Mask
Apple cider vinegar can balance the pH of the scalp, which helps to break down oily build up.
Mix equal parts of apple cider vinegar with warm water and apply to your scalp and hair for 15 minutes.
Wash with your usual shampoo after.
Repeat this 2-3 times a week and you should notice a difference quickly.
Yogurt and Honey Hair Mask
Mix 1 cup of yogurt with 2 tablespoons of honey.
Apply this paste from your roots to tips for 30 minutes.
Wash your hair with your usual shampoo.
Repeat this 2-3 times a week.
Aloe Vera Hair Mask
Add 1 tablespoon of lemon juice to 2 tablespoons of aloe vera gel.
Apply this to the scalp. Keep the paste on your scalp for 40 minutes.
Wash your hair with your usual shampoo. Repeat this 2-3 times a week to notice a difference.
The oils found in avocados are great for nourishing, hydrating and softening the skin. They can help soothe the skin by fighting against stress and reducing the appearance of wrinkles. A DIY face mask is the perfect way to get the best benefits from the avocado.
- Mash a small ripe avocado or half a large ripe avocado
- Add a tablespoon or honey and mix
- Spread the mixture on clean skin
- After 15-20 minutes wash it off with warm water
Do this twice a week for clearer and smoother skin.
Avocados contain vitamins B and E which can help combat dry hair, hair loss and a flakey scalp. You can apply an avo hair mask every week to maintain gorgeous healthy hair.
- Mash a large ripe avocado
- Add a tablespoon of yogurt
- Mix these together and apply from the roots to the tips of hair
- Leave this mask on for 30 minutes
- Wash the mixture out and shampoo as usual
Avocados have loads of magnesium in them, which helps to naturally reduce stress. They also help to sleep better so it’s great to add them to your salad or on your toast next time you’re feeling stressed out!
When you eat avocados you end up feeling fuller for longer. This is because they have a lot of fibre in them compared to other fruits and fibre is great for cleaning out your digestive system. Signals are also sent to the brain to decrease cravings.
Your brain needs healthy fats to focus properly and avocados are the perfect source! Your blood sugar can stay well maintained, which helps to focus throughout the day.

Your hair can often look dull, lifeless and feel dry during the summer months or while your on holiday. Your hair can become straw-like in texture with more split ends and you may also get a flaky scalp due to sun exposure.
Here are some tips for keeping your hair super healthy all summer long.
The more often you trim your hair, the healthier it will look and grow, so it’s a good idea to get a trim at the beginning of summer or just before you go on holiday. You can get your next trim 3 months later.
Conditioner helps to lock in moisture so make sure you’re using this every time you wash your hair. It also helps if your hair is already slightly dry and damaged. It helps keep hair looking glossy and feeling smooth.
Avoid Applying Heat to the Hair
As you’re already exposed to the sun, you should use hair dryers and hair curlers/straighteners less. Adding further heat can really increase the chance of having dry and straw-like hair. Try letting your hair dry naturally or use the cool air button on your hairdryer.
Apply a Hair Mask
If you have coloured hair you need to make sure you’re using the correct products that are specially for coloured hair. Use purple shampoo if you have blonde highlights in your hair to stop the colour from becoming brassy. Wear a hat so you’re not always in direct sunlight.
Our guide to the best oils for healthier hair to combat dandruff, frizziness and hair loss. We’ve tested the best oils for silkier and softer hair.
Moroccan argan oil is high in vitamin E and fatty acids. It’s perfect for dry and frizzy hair, making it softer, shinier and silkier. It also increases the elasticity of hair.
Coconut oil is great for all hair types. It nourishes the hair to make it grow faster and thicker. If you have dry and damaged hair, definitely apply coconut oil to your hair and keep it in overnight.
Olive oil can help you get longer and thicker hair faster. It has anti-fungal properties that help fight dandruff and other scalp conditions. It keeps hair smooth and shiny.
Castor oil is high in vitamin E with anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties. It can be used on the scalp to prevent hair loss due to its high ricinoleic acid content, which increases circulation.
Almond oil is high in vitamin E, fatty acids and magnesium, which are great for strengthening and nourishing hair. It’s also good for the scalp and helps avoid dandruff, leaving hair healthier and shinier.

Whether you’ve got dry and dull hair or want that sleek and shiny feeling, we’ve got a fab range of DIY hair masks for you to try out!
Avocado, Honey & Olive Oil
The fat from avocados helps to moisturise the hair and scalp. It’s a great source of protein, amino acids and vitamins, which helps to keep hair strong and healthy. The olive oil is very hydrating and helps to protect hair from becoming damaged. This is good if you use heat on your hair regularly. Honey is great for hair strengthening and locking in vitamins and moisture too.
Mash 1 ripe avocado. Mix with 2 tablespoons of olive oil and 2 tablespoons of honey. (Recipe for shoulder length hair)
Spread the mask onto damp hair for 30 minutes, then wash off.
Coconut oil is amazing for so many things! It nourishes the hair to make it grow faster and thicker. If you have dry and damaged hair, definitely apply coconut oil to your hair and keep it in overnight. Use a few tablespoons of coconut oil depending on how long or thick your hair is. Apply to damp hair and keep it in for at least 30 minutes – the longer, the better!
Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar helps to exfoliate the dry and dead skin cells from the scalp, whilst removing residue and also boosting shine! If you use hair products such as hair spray, gel, mousse and dry shampoo, there can be small residues of product build up left on your scalp. The vinegar is perfect for getting rid of this build up, however if you have dry and damaged hair it’s best to avoid using the vinegar in case it dries out the hair further.
Mix half a cup of Apple Cider Vinegar with 1 cup of warm water. You can pour this into a spray bottle or old shampoo bottle and apply to damp hair. After 5 minutes, rinse it out with warm water and condition the hair.
Egg and Banana
This mask is perfect for dry hair. Not only will the egg nourish the hair with protein, but combined with the banana, it will hydrate and add moisture to the hair and scalp.
Mash 1 banana and mix it with 1 egg. Apply to damp hair for 30 minutes, then wash off
Egg and Castor Oil
Castor oil is amazing for hair growth and combined with the egg, it nourishes the hair and scalp and also prevents balding.
Beat 2 eggs and add 1 tablespoon of castor oil. Apply this to your scalp and hair for a least 30 minutes, then rinse off. Don’t use any conditioner after.
So you’ve planned everything but still confused about your hair! Look no further…we’ve got you covered!
There are two types of brides – one who knows exactly what she wants and the other has a camera roll full of completely different looks with no idea! There are quite a few things to consider when choosing the perfect look so here’s a list of what we think will help you make your final decision.
1. Dupatta. Will you be wearing a dupatta on your head? This is usually required for some religious ceremonies and it’s important to have your dupatta with you especially when doing a trial or considering various hairstyles. If the dupatta is quite heavy, your hair stylist will have to consider extra hair padding to make sure the dupatta doesn’t compress the hair down too much. Usually, a bun is the go-to look whenever a bride is wearing her dupatta on her head.
2. Hair Jewellery. Are you thinking of wearing a tikka or other jewellery pieces in your hair? Your parting will depend on where these jewellery pieces are going to be placed, especially if you have a dupatta on your head too.
3. Face Shape. It’s a good idea to see what kind of hair style suits your face shape best. Before having a trial with your hair stylist or confirming your hair style choice, you can have a play around yourself. If you want an up-do, you can tie your hair in a low bun or pony and see how you like it. Then do the same but tying your hair in a mid pony/bun and then a high pony/bun. Have a think about what you prefer and your hair stylist will be able to suggest various up-do’s based on what kind of bun you want.
Low Bun – If you want a simple yet elegant look, a low bun is perfect especially for registry weddings.
Mid Bun – This is a popular option as a mid or high bun is great if you have a dupatta on your head. Mid buns look beautiful if your going for fresh flowers in your hair too.
High Bun – A high bun is great for that ‘face-lift’ effect and is perfect if your having a dupatta on your head too.
