Take a break from gel and acrylic nails

If you like to get your nails done regularly and realise your nails have become really weak then take a break from gel and acrylic nails. Gel polish peels the nails causing them to become brittle and UV exposure is a risk factor that can lead to skin cancer.

Use a non-acetone nail varnish remover

Using a nail varnish remover that contains acetone can be extremely harsh and dehydrating on the nails. So choose a non-acetone remover that has added vitamin e for keeping nails hydrated.

Nail Cream

When you remove your nail varnish make sure you cream your nails. It’s good to get into a habit of creaming your hands and nails whenever you’ve washed them too.

Take biotin supplements

If you have weak hair and nails it could be diet related. Make sure you’re getting enough biotin vitamins. They can be found in eggs and legumes but also taken as a supplement.

Hydrate

Make sure you stay hydrated as this is essential for the whole body. A sign of brittle nails can mean you’re not drinking enough water.

Avoid long exposure to water

Having nails soaked in water (especially warm and hot water) can cause them to become weak. Wear gloves when washing up dishes and take more showers instead of baths.
