Sometimes you might find that your hair gets greasy way too quickly. You might wash it in the morning and by the evening it’s already greasy! Oil build up can occur on the scalp when your sebaceous glands are over active, which produce too much sebum. Build up can also occur when you have a flakey scalp.
Here are tips to break down the oily build up and help get rid of oily hair
Apple Cider Vinegar Hair Mask
Apple cider vinegar can balance the pH of the scalp, which helps to break down oily build up.
Mix equal parts of apple cider vinegar with warm water and apply to your scalp and hair for 15 minutes.
Wash with your usual shampoo after.
Repeat this 2-3 times a week and you should notice a difference quickly.
Yogurt and Honey Hair Mask
Mix 1 cup of yogurt with 2 tablespoons of honey.
Apply this paste from your roots to tips for 30 minutes.
Wash your hair with your usual shampoo.
Repeat this 2-3 times a week.
Aloe Vera Hair Mask
Add 1 tablespoon of lemon juice to 2 tablespoons of aloe vera gel.
Apply this to the scalp. Keep the paste on your scalp for 40 minutes.
Wash your hair with your usual shampoo. Repeat this 2-3 times a week to notice a difference.
Are your nails forever breaking and becoming weak and brittle? These tips will really help to make your nails stronger. Just follow the tips below!
Take a break from gel and acrylic nails
If you like to get your nails done regularly and realise your nails have become really weak then take a break from gel and acrylic nails. Gel polish peels the nails causing them to become brittle and UV exposure is a risk factor that can lead to skin cancer.
Use a non-acetone nail varnish remover
Using a nail varnish remover that contains acetone can be extremely harsh and dehydrating on the nails. So choose a non-acetone remover that has added vitamin e for keeping nails hydrated.
When you remove your nail varnish make sure you cream your nails. It’s good to get into a habit of creaming your hands and nails whenever you’ve washed them too.
Take biotin supplements
If you have weak hair and nails it could be diet related. Make sure you’re getting enough biotin vitamins. They can be found in eggs and legumes but also taken as a supplement.
Make sure you stay hydrated as this is essential for the whole body. A sign of brittle nails can mean you’re not drinking enough water.
Avoid long exposure to water
Having nails soaked in water (especially warm and hot water) can cause them to become weak. Wear gloves when washing up dishes and take more showers instead of baths.
Chill Out Day
I know with asian weddings comes a week of celebrations and ceremonies but if you can keep the day before your wedding free – then do it! You’re most likely going to be up really early for hair and makeup and if your reception’s on the same day then you know your not sleeping till the AM! Party all week but you might just want to keep the day before free to have a chill out day. A late night will definitely effect the quality of your sleep.
You can be so prepared but sometimes things get forgotten about or a list just comes out of no where! If there’s still little jobs that need doing, make sure you DELEGATE! That’s what family and friends are for and I’m sure they would rather have you feeling calm and relaxed rather than running around doing last minute things. You’ll sleep a lot better knowing you’ve had a relaxed day where you haven’t had to deal with stress whilst knowing everything still got done.
Make sure your wedding outfit has been steamed (obv delegate this to someone responsible), have your jewellery, shoes, bag and everything else laid out so there’s no running around on the wedding day trying to find things.
Food & Drink
Make sure you eat properly and drink plenty of water for that all important glowing skin. Eating good means you’ll have a better sleep!
Watch a movie, go for a walk or just have a lazy day by yourself or with your friends – whatever you prefer for winding down! Take a bath, put on a relaxation YouTube vid. These will all help to clear your mind and help get the best night’s sleep.
Have an early night
Get in bed at a decent time to get your beauty sleep in. You want to be well rested for the most important day of your life!
Candles & Essential Oils
Light some candles to help you relax or put a few drops of lavender oil on your pillow to help you sleep.
By completing all the above steps, you’re more likely to have a great night’s sleep!
Remove your makeup
Always remove your makeup before bed. A lot of people think simply using a face wipe is enough, but you’ll be surprised how much dirt is still left on the skin. Use a cleanser and toner to make sure there is no makeup left. Sleeping with makeup on can block your pores and lead to blackheads and spots.
Firstly, you want to make sure you get rid of any dry skin. By exfoliating the dead skin away, it makes sure there is no skin build up that can lead to pores becoming blocked. Exfoliate twice a week as you don’t want to be too aggressive with your skin, which could lead to irritation and spots.
Sun exposure is damaging to the skin so make sure you protect it. Your skin can become pigmented and pores can become enlarged. Use SPF every day to stop this from happening.
Just like steam opens pores, ice closes pores. Once you have cleansed and exfoliated your skin you can apply ice all over your face for 5 minutes. This will also help pores appear smaller.
Make sure you moisturise day and night. If you leave your skin to become too dry, it will begin to create more oil that can result in a build up and clog pores. This will then lead to enlarged pores and other skin issues. Make sure you use a moisturiser that hydrates the skin well.

The oils found in avocados are great for nourishing, hydrating and softening the skin. They can help soothe the skin by fighting against stress and reducing the appearance of wrinkles. A DIY face mask is the perfect way to get the best benefits from the avocado.
- Mash a small ripe avocado or half a large ripe avocado
- Add a tablespoon or honey and mix
- Spread the mixture on clean skin
- After 15-20 minutes wash it off with warm water
Do this twice a week for clearer and smoother skin.
Avocados contain vitamins B and E which can help combat dry hair, hair loss and a flakey scalp. You can apply an avo hair mask every week to maintain gorgeous healthy hair.
- Mash a large ripe avocado
- Add a tablespoon of yogurt
- Mix these together and apply from the roots to the tips of hair
- Leave this mask on for 30 minutes
- Wash the mixture out and shampoo as usual
Avocados have loads of magnesium in them, which helps to naturally reduce stress. They also help to sleep better so it’s great to add them to your salad or on your toast next time you’re feeling stressed out!
When you eat avocados you end up feeling fuller for longer. This is because they have a lot of fibre in them compared to other fruits and fibre is great for cleaning out your digestive system. Signals are also sent to the brain to decrease cravings.
Your brain needs healthy fats to focus properly and avocados are the perfect source! Your blood sugar can stay well maintained, which helps to focus throughout the day.
